Brown
Hall, which encompasses a large courtyard, was built in 1947 in Gothic
Tudor styling. It is a four-story structure housing 264 upperclass men
and women in units that are arranged vertically rather than horizontally
by floors. Each unit has its own outside entrance. Most of the living
units are comprised of two-room suites for three students. Major renovation,
completed in 1983, has made portions of Brown Hall accessible to the
disabled. The hall is named for Concordia President J.N. Brown, who
served the college from 1925 to 1951.
Rooms: Two-room suites
provide a study/bedroom combination. Most of the suites are for three
students, although there are a few rooms for only one, two, or four
occupants. Each room is furnished with beds, built-in closets and dressers,
mirrors, built-in desks, chairs, bookshelves, drapes, and a private
telephone. The beds in the men's suites are extra long (80'' x 39''),
and most of the beds in the women's units are regular (75'' x 39'').
Lounges:
The main lounge (in Unit 1) is furnished with chairs and sofas, study
tables, a piano, and fireplace. This lounge is open 24 hours each day
and is available for individual and group use. The main lounge may be
reserved for use during daytime hours by contacting Campus Information.
The lower lounges in Units 1, 2 and 7 are open from 10 a.m. to 2
a.m. Sunday-Thursday and 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. Friday-Saturday. The Unit
V lounge does not have visitation hours.
Recreational area:
Recreational facilities, including vending machines and color televisions,
are located in the lounges of Units 1 and 7. Videos, pool cues and
balls, as well as other assorted sports equipment may be checked out
at the Livedalen desk.
Kitchen: A kitchenette
equipped with a small refrigerator and range is located in the basement
of Unit 7. Cooking utensils may be checked out at the Livedalen desk.
Laundry facilities:
Located in the basement of Unit 2 and Unit 7 and on the first floors
of Units 5 and 6, the laundry facilities include commercial automatic
washers and dryers. Laundry machines are activated by funds from your
student ID card. Ironing boards are available in the laundry rooms,
but students must furnish their own irons.
Storage
room: The storage rooms located in the basement of Units 1 and 7
may be used for the storage of suitcases and other seldom-used items.
Contact a staff member to make arrangements for its use. The college
does not assume liability for items stored in the storage room. Also,
items which are unmarked, or unclaimed for two years, will be donated
to local charities or otherwise disposed of.
