Residence
life
Welcome to residential life at Concordia college!
The mission of the department of residence life is to provide a safe living environment
that promotes personal growth, fosters student learning, stresses
responsible behavior and encourages community involvement.
Welcome...
The concept of group living in Concordia's residence hall program
acknowledges that the hall is not just a place to sleep and study. The hall
experience, with the relationships you enjoy and the activities in which
you participate, is an integral part of your total learning experience here
at Concordia. As a member of a residence hall community, you will encounter
a variety of new opportunities and experiences. The hall staff will encourage
you to take advantage of these opportunities, but only you can guarantee
that they have value by your willingness to get involved and to participate.
Goals...
The Office of Residential Life has identified five primary goals
to benefit students living in the halls. They are:
- To provide safe, clean, functional and attractive facilities.
- To foster a supportive environment for learning - academic
and personal
- To stress responsible behavior and respect for others' rights
- To encourage social and educational programming
- To promote opportunities for and encourage participation
in activities designed for service, leadership and personal
development.
Concordia is historically
a residential campus by design. About 65 percent of Concordia's students
reside on campus. All first and second year students are required to
live in college housing unless they are living at home in the Fargo-Moorhead area (click here for a more detailed description of the residency requirement). Each residence
hall is administered by a Residence Hall Director. These part-time,
live-in professionals are assisted by Resident Assistants (RAs) who
are undergraduate students living on each floor/unit. Each residence
hall staff offers students the opportunity to engage in a variety of
activities and programs.
Residents are encouraged to participate in developing a hall environment
suitable for all residents. Just as in other communities that make
up society, freedom within limits is a guiding principle. Further
information about campus housing can be found in the Facilities section
of this web site.
Staff members are available for
resource and referral information as well as specific requests
relating to individual needs. The Office of Residential Life is
a division of Student Affairs and located
in the Northeast corner of Lorentzsen Hall, first floor. The telephone
number is (218) 299-3872.
