The purpose of Insight: The May Leadership Internship is to increase the effectiveness and efficacy of student leaders by empowering and equipping them with information and knowledge related to leadership and management issues.
By participating in the May Leadership Internship, students will gain “Insight” into:
Working with College Administration - Administrative professionals at Concordia want you to succeed as leaders in the coming year. Meet the people who can be of service to your organization, and learn who to go to with your questions.
Understanding How to Organize, Facilitate, and Effectively Lead within a Group - Learn how to effectively keep your organization running and growing, even with all of the different personalities that will participate. Nuts and bolts information from facilitating discussion, to running meetings, to recruiting members, and more!
Developing your Own Leadership Skills - Everyone has a unique capacity for leadership. Even if you already know a bit about yours, dig deeper into understanding how to use that leadership within your organization and in your future vocation.
Collaborating with Other Student Leaders - Spend time networking and getting to know other student leaders on campus. Discover potential collaborative efforts to make the next year even more successful!
Get a head start on the next year - With approximately 40 hours of work time at your finger tips, spend some time getting organized and starting to work on your organizational goals and initiatives. You will be able to hit the ground running in the fall!
Expectations
Students participating in Insight: The May Leadership Internship are held accountable for certain expectations including, but not limited to, the following:
A courteous and respectful attitude is required at all times.
You are expected to be on time for every event. Sessions will begin on time and all interns should be seated and ready when the presenters begin.
The asking of questions and raising of issues is encouraged and should be done in a timely and appropriate manner. Administrators and staff who are participating in this internship are taking their own time to meet with you and keep in mind that they are people, not just titles, positions and policies.
Business casual attire is expected throughout the day.
Time allotted for work related to organizational goals and objectives should be as productive as possible.
The dates of Insight: the May Leadership Internship are May 12-23, 2008. We will be on a daily schedule from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some special events taking place on various evenings. You have a half hour for lunch, a break in the morning and a break in the afternoon. You will receive a final schedule on the first day of the internship. All sessions will take place in Jones Conference Suite, Rooms C & D, 2nd Floor, Knutson Campus Center unless otherwise noted on the schedule.
Pay Schedule
Interns are paid at the campus wage for TWO, 40-hour work weeks. Half of your wages will be paid by Student Government Association, allocated from the Student Activity Fee, and the other half is covered by the college through the Office of Student Leadership and Service. Please know that because the Student Activity Fee is funding this internship, you are responsible not only to your organization but to the student body as well. Please see that your productivity is worthy of their financial support.
Students may not work at any additional on-campus jobs throughout the internship, as the college has not budgeted for overtime pay.
It is your responsibility to give your Social Security and ID numbers to the Cornerstone Programming Center in order to begin the paperwork necessary for payment. Also, if you are not currently employed by Concordia, please go to the Human Resources office immediately to complete the W-4 and I-9 forms. Your checks may be delayed or not issued if we do not have the proper information from you.
You will receive your wages on June 15, 2008, the normal pay schedule for on-campus workers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: you will only be paid for the sessions you attend and for the hours you work toward completing your organizational goals. If you are late to a session or you choose not to use all of your work time for completion of organizational goals, you will NOT be paid for those times.
Free Housing
Residence Life will provide housing in the campus apartments, free-of-charge, during the internship for those attending the program. Once accepted into the internship, we will send you the housing information link.
