Education majors: Please read this information carefully and contact the Career Center if you have any questions.
Registering with the Career Center - All
education majors are asked to register with the Career Center. This will
ensure that we can keep you up-to-date on the latest information of special
interest to education majors. Once you register, you may also search
our job postings. To register, please go to the Student
Registration section of our website.
Credentials File - The originals of your
student teaching evaluations will be kept on file in the Career Center. We
receive your student teaching evaluations approximately three weeks after you
complete your student teaching experience. The Career Center will also
house the originals of your letters of recommendation at your request. One
copy of your file will be provided to you. Contact the Career Center
if you would like us to maintain your personal credentials file.
Working Credentials - You will need to
create your own set of "working credentials" by obtaining copies of your student
teaching evaluations and letters of recommendation. We also suggest that you
maintain copies of your teaching resume, sample cover letter, personal statement
and/or teaching philosophy, unofficial transcript, and portfolio to assist
you in applying for teaching positions. It is your responsibility to
make copies of your working credentials for prospective employers and to send
them along with any other supporting documents you may choose to include.
Transcripts - All requests for official
or unofficial transcripts must be made through the Registrar's Office at 218-299-3250.
Licensure - The Career Center has available
licensure materials for the State of Minnesota and the State of North Dakota. You
may request a license application at anytime, however it cannot be processed
until you graduate. Completed applications, fingerprint cards, and checks
should be returned to the Registrar's Office for final processing. For
additional information on licensure in Minnesota, North Dakota, and other states,
Applying for Teaching Positions - Applying
for a teaching position is a multi-step process and involves a significant
amount of time. Students should begin the process of applying for positions
at least two months in advance of graduation. For a suggested timeline,
Minnesota Education Job Fair - The Minnesota
College and University Career Services Association sponsors an annual job fair
for prospective teachers. The fair is typically held in late April and
only students and alumni of Minnesota colleges and universities are eligible
to attend. To attend the fair you must register with the Career Center. Only
pre-registered candidates will be admitted to the fair. For more information
on the Minnesota Education Job Fair, go to the Events & Fairs section
of our website or go to http://www.mcucsa.org/mnedfair/.
